FOR FAMILIES

Build the habits before the first phone.

A simple family phone plan for calls, carrying, bedrooms, schoolwork, and learning to read SAR information together.

A family phone plan is easier to follow when it is specific. Decide where a phone lives, how calls happen, and what offline time looks like. Apply the same habits to adults so children see a routine they can copy.

Give the phone a place

A charging spot outside bedrooms makes nighttime boundaries concrete. A table stand keeps video calls from becoming long sessions with a phone pressed against the body. A bag or designated holder can be more practical than tight clothing pockets.

Explain the colors honestly

Children can compare the numbers in our SAR tables, but green does not mean harmless and red does not predict illness. The colors organize reported laboratory values. They cannot show the exposure of a particular child using a particular phone.

Keep communication usable

Plan how a child will reach a caregiver or emergency service before changing connection settings. Use offline content for activities that do not need a network, and explain why airplane mode and Wi-Fi are separate controls.

Ask useful questions at school

What tasks can use wired connections? Where are devices stored? Can lessons include breaks from screens and body contact? RF Safe advocates wired and optical connections for indoor use, alongside transparent discussion of the research.

Start with one repeatable change this week. Consistency is more useful than a rule no one can follow.
